In this year, the theme "Hard Country" has come into focus. More on this with time. For now, I continue to meander from drawing, to collage, to painting, and these modes become less and less separate with each day of practice. Drawings and collages can be explorations for paintings, which require more time and development. But they are also visual discoveries in their own right. Similarly, no painting ever follows one of these quicker pieces to the letter. They are always only departure points for a new exploration in pigment and oil. The selected works below follow this rhythm, and present the series as it takes shape in my studio. The theme, Hard Country, is ultimately what drives it.
